Valentine's Day Ideas!

I love Valentine's Day! I love being able to get away with all the lovey-dovey-tell-you-how-i-heart-you-ness! It also means chocolate, flowers, pink, red, and if you're oh, so lucky, jewelry...what's not to LOVE about this day?

Having a child has make this day even more special to me! ! I love the crafts and sweet ideas that make Valentine's so much fun for kids!

Here are some of my very favorite Valentine's Day crafts and sweet treats!

Last year for my son's school Valentine's party, I was in charge of the craft. I always LOVE getting pictures of Chase's handprints made into art! So, I decided we would make a heart using the kid's handprints! I used 8x8 flat canvas panels that you can purchase at Hobby Lobby for $5.99 for a pack. I then cut a 5"piece of red and white stripe grosgrain ribbon and hot clued it to the top, making a loop for it to hang. At the party, the kids painted their hands with red paint and stamped them on the canvas making the shape of the heart. They then decorated the border of the canvas with paint brushes. Very sweet! The middle photo is from Roots and Wings Co. There is a great tutorial found here on how to make the handprint hearts.

Let the kids decorate! A fun classroom or party idea is a decorate-a-cookie bar! Kids love this...of course because it contains sugar! Bring plain sugar cookies shaped in heartsl You can either make the cookies or ask your grocery store bakery to make some without icing! Set-up the table with bowls of sprinkes and toppings and several colors of icing...oh and lots of napkins too! A craft and a sweet in one!! Chef Messy provides recipes for sugar cookies and cookie paints with a great Toddler-Friendly Cookie Decorating!

I am in love with this 'Love Bug' Valentine box! One of my dearest friends posted this precious little guy on Facebook today! I had to get the scoop on how to make him! Sarah took an empty tissue box and wrapped it in felt, made his teeth from white felt, a yellow heart shaped nose, twisted pipe cleaners to make antennas and glued two large googley eyes on the end! I love her creativity and the originality of a Valentine's Box!!

I adore the idea of this felt envelope filled with a Valentine card and some treats inside! Don't sew? No problem...use fabric glue instead of stitching! Find the fabulous tutorial on these darlings from Roots and Wings Co!

Last year, I made these Felt Fortune Cookie pouches filled with Hershey's Kisses and personalized fortunes for a friend's daughters class. They turned out so darling, placed in a white Chinese take-out box filled with red and pink crinkle paper and tied with heart shaped tags. If you don't sew, use fabric glue. Here's a tutorial via Craftzine!

I think the Heart Crayons make a great Valentine's for friends and classmates! Make the crayons with the tutorial from Family Fun!! Make them in solid colors or do mixed like in the photo! I love the single heart crayon on a personalized tag or you could stack 3 to 5 hearts on top of each other and wrap in cellophane leaving 2+ inches on each side and tie with grosgrain ribbon or twine and include a personalized tag!

Another great tutorial for shaped crayons found at The Idea Room!

Lollipop Valentine's are so much fun! Here is a tutorial for Butterfly lollipops from She Knows!
I especially LOVE the flower-pops my friend Sarah made...yes, the same crafting cutie who make the monster box!!! How cute are these? They would make great centerpieces in short vases and then favors for the guests!

PINWHEELS! Oh, how I love pinwheels!!! Pinwheels are the perfect party accessories! They make great party decor and kids love to play with them! Here are some awesome pinwheels from the ever-fabulous Pinwhirl Parties! She offers do-it-yourself pinwheel kits and ideas for classroom parties!

OHHH MMMMMM GEEEEEEE! These are by far my most favorite ever!!! GUMBALL NECKLACES! Yes, they are TO DIE FOR! The incredibly talented One Charming Party has a tutorial on these beautiful treats! Make bracelets for boys with baker's twine and white gumballs! Soooo ridiculously AWESOME!!!

What speaks Valentine's more than Conversation Hearts? These little Valentine Day icons date back to the 1860's!! I love the idea of adding these to rice krispie treats! Use a heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out hearts and then stick a lollipop stick in the bottom to make a rice krispie pop! Place a cellophane bag over the treat and tie with ribbon and a tag!

Chocolate covered Pretzel rods are so yummy and make great Valentine's Day favors! Dipped pretzels in chocolate, white chocolate, red and/or pink chocolate mold then roll or sprinkle with your favorite toppings!!
I love these from ChocPatch on Etsy!

And last, but certainly not least....I LOVE these healthy treats from Hatter & Hare Events! Her Fruity Valentine Day post features Heart Fruit Kababs and XOXO's chocolate dipped fruit! I love HEALTHY & CUTE!!!

I hope some of these ideas inspire you to create something fun for Valentine's!!

Thanks you for the great ideas Cari! I'm definitely making the hand prints of my boys hands for the family this Valentine's Day. I love the idea. I'm thinking I will put both of their hands together to make the heart. Hunter's in red and Hayden's in white. Thanks for the shout out and putting our fun crafts on your page. We have had a lot if fun making them. Love your ideas, thanks again for sharing!!

Oh dear, my attempts at home made crayons were somewhat of a disaster... the tins are still sitting outside! Aussies don't really do class parties on Valentine's Day, so I asked the year two teacher if I could throw one and since then LOTS of my friends at other schools have done the same thing too! YAY. Can't wait. Cari, I hope you have a lovely Valentine's Day - it's a wonderful excuse to be grateful for the love we have in our lives isn't it. Janexx
